"The essence of meditation is a period of time set aside to contemplate the Lord, listen to Him, and allow Him to permeate our spirits." - Charles Stanley
Yesterday, I was reading in Proverbs about finding the knowledge of God. Solomon writes in Proverbs 2:2-5, "Making your ear attentive to wisdom and inclining your heart to understanding; yes, if you call out for insight and raise your voice for understanding, if you seek it like silver and search for it as for hidden treasures, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God." I have really been learning about the difference between seeking the Lord in the quiet place versus seeking him at worship services and large gatherings. While large and loud gatherings can be catalytic and great for many reasons, there is something so sweet and special about seeking the voice of the Lord in quiet spaces. A quiet space is both in your heart and in your physical surroundings. We often have too much noise in our heart and around us to hear the "still small voice" of the Lord (1 Kings 19:11-13). And I think that is exactly why the Enemy is trying to distract us in a world that is increasingly filled with noise and distractions. What does it look like to truly sit before the Lord, to wait, and to listen? For me, it is becoming a discipline: something that isn't necessarily easy to do, but I desire to make room for. Waiting on the Lord to speak is a beautiful and serene posture of the heart. It can be uncomfortable at first, but truly meditating on the words of the Lord and disconnecting from the world around us is worth it and will produce many fruits.
