Songbirds

When I was a little girl, I would walk around singing everywhere I went. I didn't care whether there were people around me, or what they were doing- it was always a good time for singing. My father would always never apologize for me to those around, but rather he would grin and exclaim, "that's my little songbird!" This just spurred me on more, and to make my dad even "prouder" I would sing a little louder and throw in a groovy move or two. As I have gotten older, and grown in awareness of others (and maybe even some fear of man is thrown in there...), I don't sing like I used to. However, I have grown in my appreciation of the little creatures singing all around us. Songbirds are a beautiful metaphor for the heart song that the Father has put inside all of us. They sing all throughout the day, and their songs break through the darkness and silence of the night. The fly about, from place to place, carrying the song they have within them. Likewise, we should carry the song and message on our hearts with us everywhere we go. We should not be ashamed to proclaim the goodness of God to the nations, to the cities, to our friends. Each of us is like these little songbirds, flying about, carrying a pure sound, but we must open our hearts and our mouths and release the songs. The Father will rejoice over the sound-no matter how loud you are!
