Back in high school, when I was taking AP Environmental Science with a friend. This friend had the idea that if we went back to the way thing used to when people lived in close contact with the land, then we could solve some of these environmental issues. To me, this has always seemed impractical. People don't want to regress to old-fashioned ways of living. We are constantly progressing, and I think the best option would be to progress and use our knowledge and technology to the best of our ability to solve environmental problems. Now, we could get into the issue of being hands-on managers, as described by Eisenberg, but that isn't exactly what I'm suggesting. I think that we should innovate and advance technology so that humans are having less of an impact on the environment because, to me, this seems to be about the only thing we can do at this point. Creating zero waste, using renewable energy, and practicing sustainability are goals that could feasibly be met, if we tried. I think the best option is to look to the future and attempt to make that brighter as opposed to try to regain something from the past.
