The AT - Student Choice #4

I have not spent much time on the Appalachian Trail but I do have a story about one of the few times I hiked on it.  My friends and I were hiking all day and made it to the base of our last stretch of trail before we were set to camp.  The sun had set and we had to turn the headsets on for the remaining couple of miles in the dark.  We were going uphill not really saying anything because of the long day and our energy level was low.  However, we were all listening to the insects communicating and it brought a peace over us.  Nature in itself is a beautful thing but when you can pinpoint certain aspects of it, a connection can be made between human and nature.  After a few minutes of this relaxed and calm state we were in, the direction changed and we were going around a bend in the trail.  As soon as I looked up around the bend, my eyes met a pair of glowing green eyes staring straight into my soul from about 15 feet away.  My heart stopped and my eyes locked with this beast.  At this point one of my other friends bumped into me because I had stopped and watched as the innocent deer pranced away.  Nature can be a funny thing, calm and cool one second but change to a scary scenery right after.  I think this proves God's hands made nature because of the reminder of how we can be caught between something so wonderful yet so unknown at the same time.  It is a weird contradiction that makes sense because it does not make sense and we will never fully know the whole picture of it all.
