“I was baptized [sic] three times this morning. 1st... in balmy sunshine that penetrated to my very soul, warming all the faculties of spirit, as well as the joints and marrow of the body; 2nd, in the mysterious rays of beauty that emanate from plant corollas; and 3rd, in the spray of the lower Yosemite Falls. My 1st baptism was by immersion, the 2nd by pouring, and the 3rd by sprinkling.”
This an experience that John Muir describes having as a young kid. He wanted his readers and followers to be baptized in the grace of nature. Immersion in the wilderness gave Muir a sense of revelation from God. This revelation from God was a part of Muir’s gospel that held a universal unifying power.
