It is with thanksgiving that allows us to
gain a new meaning and significance of everything that has been created. “To
give thanks means that each thing is no longer simply a material entity
susceptible to measurement, manipulation, and possession, but is instead the
sensory manifestation of God’s desire that it should participate in its
flourishing” (Wirzba 155). Thanksgiving allows us to participate in God’s
creation. When we give, we are awakened to the “loveliness of the world”
(Wirzba 157). Giving thanks shows our understanding that every creature is
worthy of life. In Wirzba’s mind, God has gifted us the opportunity to share
and bless in his flowering of life.
