Growing up, my parents were extremely adventurous, so whenever
we had a free weekend we would visit National Parks on the west coast. If
weather permitted, we were outside. There are photos of me as a toddler playing
in a stream near Yosemite. Because of my upbringing in the outdoors, I have consistently
viewed the National Parks in a positive light. About two years ago, I set the
goal to visit every National Park during my lifetime. I do not count the parks
I visited as a small child because I do not remember those trips. As a young
adult, I reset the count at zero and began planning my trips. I saw the Grand
Canyon as a freshman in high school. In October, I made a day trip to Shenandoah
with some friends. Over winter break this year, I flew out to Las Vegas to
start a road trip with my dad. We saw Death Valley, Zion, Bryce Canyon, and Capitol
Reef. Every time I arrive at a National Park, I hike part of it that way I get
the full experience. I am completely content to continue spending my vacation
time at these parks for the foreseeable future.
