Soccer - Student Choice #3
Combining Religion, Ecology, and soccer is not the easiest thing I have ever done but it sure has been a huge part of my life. I have played soccer for about 18 years, I have been a Christian for about 10 years, and I have just really started learning about the environment for only a couple years. Bring all of these together and what do you get? I have played soccer on hundreds of fields, with thousands of people and I am able to say that I have gotten to know people more through soccer than most things. I have played soccer with all kinds of people who look, act, and speak differently than me. All of these facts have shown how people have also been able to share an experience with me. I appear different to them sometimes because of my actions. I love on them through win or loss, whether they foul me or I foul them, or through conversations on the pitch I have with them when the ball is on the other side of the pitch. Through these different aspects, I am able to tie in an understanding of a new ecology I have found around loving others the way Christ did on the soccer field. It is different from daily living because we come together to get away from work, school, or whatever we are doing to play on a patch of grass. The grass is from nature which represents the ability to get away from society but also form an ecological bond with others around me getting away from society too. We are able to have a good time kicking a ball around getting to know each other, forming new relationships that we continue with when we go back to our daily living. This combination between these three things has given me something to look into to pursue for the rest of my life.
